ParentChild+
ParentChild+ is a research-based early childhood literacy and school readiness program that supports low-income families with children ages 16 to 30 months.
What is ParentChild+?
We believe that you are your child’s first and most important teacher, and your home is your child’s primary classroom. A ParentChild+-trained, community-based Early Learning Specialist will visit your home twice a week for 30 minutes to help you prepare your child to be successful in school and life. You will learn creative ways to read and play with your child. ParentChild+ provides your child with a free high-quality book or educational toy each week – up to 46 new books and toys! The Early Learning Specialist models reading, conversation, and play activities to stimulate parent-child interaction and promote the development of verbal, cognitive, and social-emotional skills critical for children’s long-term success and school readiness.
Vision
ParentChild+ envisions a world where every child enters school ready to succeed because every parent has the knowledge, skills, and resources to build school readiness where it starts: the home.
Mission
The ParentChild+ nationwide network of program sites provides low-income families with the necessary skills and tools to ensure their children achieve their highest potential in school and life. The National Center assists under-served communities in replicating and expanding PCHP’s proven school readiness program that builds early parent-child verbal interaction and learning at home. Together we are strengthening families and communities and preparing the workforce of the future.
