What We Do

For almost 40 years, DLEC has provided high-quality multicultural early learning and family support services so that Seattle kids will be ready to succeed in school and life.

Why It Matters

Half of Washington’s children enter kindergarten unprepared. Children who do not have access to high quality early learning experiences are 25% more likely to drop out of school.

  • Children in poverty show significantly lower levels of proficiency in key cognitive areas, starting as early as 9 months. As children in poverty grow older, the gap between poor and non-poor achievement levels quickly expand. High-quality early education is proven to shrink these gaps.
